Solid Surface and Corian Worktops
Acrylic stone (or solid surfaces, as it’s often termed) is a kitchen designer’s dream. Available in a whole rainbow of colours, it can be thermoformed (shaped using heat) into just about any shape. Another big advantage of acrylic is that it can be jointed virtually seamlessly. The industry standard is that you should not be able to see a joint from one metre away. This means that to all intent and purposes you’re kitchen work surface will have no joints. This also includes the sink and upstands meaning acrylic work surfaces are extremely hygienic due to the fact that there are no nooks and crannies for dirt to hide. In fact acrylic work surfaces are the preferred option for hospitals and medical centres for precisely that reason.
The four big names in the acrylic stone world are Corian® made by Du-pont, Hi-Macs® made by LG, Staron® made by Samsung (yes the same people that make TV’s) and Hanex® made by, well, Hanex. We are now proud to be able to offer these materials for kitchen worktops, vanity tops, bar tops and other commercial uses.
